Come, get to know us, have some fun, make some friends
Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday) is a tradition when Christians prepared for the beginning of their fasting and meditation during the season of Lent. So they tried to use up the last bits of fat in their cooking. So we observe the day before Lent begins with a pancake supper, along with games and merriment.
500 (Card Game) Marathon
Beat those cabin fever blues! The 500 Marathon is an annual card playing event, taking place one Sunday evening in each of the months of January, February, March, and April. Couples meet to play, snack, and socialize for the first three rounds. The final round in April begins with a potluck preceding the games. It is a great way to get acquainted. Knowing how to play 500 is NOT required. Some of the more seasoned players will be happy to teach beginners.
Church League Softball
St. Timothys sponsors a slow-pitch softball team that plays in a church league on Monday nights at Birdsall Park in Cedar Falls. Games start in April and end in early August. This league is intended to be a recreational and social league, but it is also competitive. Men and women at least 16 years old are invited to play. Spectators are invited too. If you are interested in playing, contact Al Yakish.
Cedar Falls Mixed League Recreational Volleyball
Men and women are invited to join the St. Timothys volleyball team during the winter season. Games are played at Holmes Jr. High School on Monday evenings. Contact Tony Reid or Al Yakish.
Fall Kick-off Party
Held annually around the first week of September, all St. Timothys members, friends, and people from the neighborhood are invited to come and share a potluck meal and time for fellowship.
Trick or Trunking
Trick or Trunking has become an annual Halloween event at St. Timothys. It’s a great alternative to house-to-house trick-or-treat, and lets the adults get in the act too. And there’s a serious side – the children also may use this time to Trick or Treat for unicef.
Children’s Gift Making
Children are invited to come on a Sunday afternoon in early December to make gifts for their parents or other special people in their lives. The gifts are a well-kept secret, and it’s a great way for children to learn about the value of giving. In addition, parents get an afternoon off to shop!
Christmas Caroling
In December, the choir takes a break from rehearsals and invites one and all to go caroling around town at the residences of our older members and shut-ins.
