Only 1 out of 3 persons stopped to help the injured man in the story of the Good Samaritan. Are you that one person who will help others?
You can show your compassion by providing WE CARE Kits for the homeless!
In Ziploc bags, place useful items. Suggestions include: toothbrush & toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, Chapstick, lotion, razors & shaving cream for men, water bottles, caps/hats, warm gloves, warm socks. Healthy food items: granola bars, crackers with peanut butter/cheese, beef jerky, chex mix, nuts, pudding cups & fruit cups with plastic spoon.
Include a note that God loves them, that you are thinking about them, and praying for God to watch over them.
Leave your donated items in the tub at St. Timothys, marked We Care kits under the name tag case outside the sanctuary. They will be delivered to many appreciative and needy folks at the Salvation Army and Hospitality House shelters.
This will be an on-going service to the homeless, so the items can change as the weather changes.
Update 10/01/2018 – In the past we asked that people leave We Care Kits in Lincoln Park. Through discussion with Salvation Army and the Hospitality House, it has been learned that there is a much better way to make sure the homeless actually receive what we have been offering in the We Care kits to the homeless. When left in Lincoln Park, people may take the items who don’t need them or weather or animals might destroy the bags. Both Salvation Army and the Hospitality House would like to be able to give the items directly to individuals as needed.
