Job Descriptions - Relating People to GodWorship CommitteeDescriptionLead the congregation in providing opportunities for worship celebrations that focus on God, help people of all ages grow in their understanding of the Gospel, and become better equipped for daily living as faithful disciples. QualificationsSpiritual gifts: servanthood, teaching, exhortation (encouragement), leadership, wisdom, knowledge, faith, discernment, administration, evangelism, and shepherding Experience, skills: Have a passion for worshiping God and helping others worship through music, liturgy, and in personal and community practices. Useful skills for this position are the ability to listen to and communicate with people of all ages, interest in a wide range of worship experiences, interest in music and other worship-related arts, skills for researching worship issues, and sensitivity both to what makes worship effective and ways people relate to God. Responsibilities
Scheduled ActivitiesGreeterGreeters will arrive at least 30 minutes before worship to welcome worshipers, especially visitors. They will assist visitors, helping direct them to the sanctuary, answer any questions, treat them as our guests, and help them feel at home at St. Timothys. Greeters will be assigned a single Sunday periodically throughout the year. UsherUshers will arrive at least 30 minutes before worship to welcome worshipers, distribute programs, and help guests find their seats. Also included in their duties: checking oil in candles, passing offering plates, taking attendance, and tidying the sanctuary after worship. Ushers are asked to serve for all the Sundays in the month assigned. Worship Leader (Liturgist)The Liturgist shares leadership of the worship service with the pastor. In this role, you will be leading the congregation in several responsive readings, unison prayers, and you'll read some of the scriptures. You may be asked to assist with Communion on that day. Acolyte (Light & Extinguish candlesAcolytes are responsible for carrying in the light of God in preparation for worship, and carrying out the light at the end of the service. Children, youth, and adults are invited to serve as acolytes. Prepare CommunionPurchase bread and grape juice, and get it ready for worship. Serve CommunionAssist the pastor in sharing the bread and cup during worship. More OpportunitiesSing in the choirThe chancel choir usually sings in worship about 3 times a month during the school year. Rehearsals are at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. Provide special music, dance, drama, reading...Check this option if you are willing to share your musical abilities during worship, especially when the choir does not sing, or for special occasions, such as Christmas Play in an instrumental groupUsually around Christmastime, the St. Timothys Folke Ensemble forms a somewhat eclectic orchestra for a special Worship service. Piano AccompanistA piano accompanist is needed occasionally when the Director of Music Ministries is absent. You could be asked to accompany the choir or to accompany small groups or soloists. Ring Bells in the Adult Handbell ChoirA ringer in the adult hand bell choir will be expected to be at rehearsals. leading up to the performance on a specified Sunday. No experience is necessary. The adult hand bell choir director will organize the parts so the ringers will know when to play their bells, even if they have little understanding of music. Participate in Youth Musical GroupsThere will be two youth musical groups divided by age. The younger group will be made up of third through sixth grades and the older seventh through ninth grades. The music will vary from singing, playing hand bells, playing instruments the youth are experienced in, playing hand drums, to varying combinations of all the above listed. The musical pieces played will be in a variety of styles as well as groupings so there will more than likely be something for everyone. Also, the youth are encouraged to invite friends to play and sing in these groups . Sound, Lights, Presentation TechnicianWork at the control desk during worship, controlling lighting, sound levels, and video projection. Experience is not required, training will be provided. Design presentation visualsWork with the pastor to develop visuals and videos to align and support the worship theme. Host coffee hour after worshipServe cookies and coffee in fellowship hall immediately following worship, and cleanup afterwards. Music LibrarianOur music department needs someone to help keep us organized! Responsibilities would be filing and organizing music a few times each year. No set hours or schedule to keep. No music knowledge necessary. This is a way to serve on your own time!
