Justice & Action - Beyond Our Community

ASP - Appalachia Service Project
Nearly every summer several vans of youth and adults travel to the Appalachian Mountains to help modernize or improve the homes of impoverished people. The group works most of the winter raising funds to pay for expenses and materials. They hold construction skill seminars in the spring, and then spend a week on the trip. On their return, they'll share stories of the relationships they've built, and how their faith has grown through helping others.

Cool Congregations
A core group of citizens of planet Earth have been holding workshops to help people calculate their carbon footprints and determine how best to reduce them.

- Community that promotes an enlightened theology from a biblical perspective, and articulates
progress toward it.

MFSA unites activists to take action on issues of justice, peace and liberation in the church, nation and world. This website serves as a gateway to many other organizations for social justice - be sure to visit their Resources page.

Thanksgiving Ingathering
Each autumn, the Iowa Annual Conference holds Bishop's Ingatherings at various sites throughout Iowa. Our closest one is held in Waverly. Members and friends are encouraged to give out of their abundance, whether in cash, or animals, or crops, or crafts, or quilts. The donations are sent to agencies of the United Methodist Church around the world to help people improve their situations.

Rainbow Covenant
The United Methodist Church has set a goal for churches to earn the Rainbow Covenant status by donating funds to a variety of local, national, and world-wide projects. St. Timothys sets aside a portion of at least 10% of the budget to go for missions. Also, our members and friends have been generous in their mission giving above and beyond our set budget. St. Timothys has consistently achieved the Rainbow Covenant goal in recent years.
