It has served to provide fresh food for the gardeners, the North East Iowa Food Bank, and St. Timothys Food Closet. Approximately 600 – 900 pounds of food has been donated annually to the N. E. Iowa Food Bank. The third Friday of the month, during the growing season, fresh produce is given to St. Timothys Food Closet for distribution to needy families.
Over the course of its existence, the garden has provided not only fresh food, but a chance to: enjoy work in the fresh air; marvel at the miracle of plant growth; develop new friendships; and share the bounty of harvest with those who need it most.
St. Timothys is blessed to have Master Gardeners (Tom Pounds, Sharon Walker, and Glenda Riddle) who share their expertise for the benefit of the garden.
A group of 8 – 10 dedicated gardeners is needed each season to take proper care of the garden and spell each other at times of vacation, etc.. The usual day for garden work is Thursday from 5 to 7 pm, but weeding and cultivating can happen anytime.
If you can donate a few hours this summer please contact: Pete Wetrich , Tony Reid, or Krysten Reid. You will be added to our e-mail group and kept up to date on Neighborhood Garden activities.
